Everreach Labs has announced that their upcoming co-op PvE extraction shooter, Revenge, will feature optional blockchain integration through the Immutable platform. This partnership aims to strengthen the game by enhancing player-spectator interaction, providing secure asset ownership, and delivering a seamless experience for all players, both on and off-chain.
A Fresh Take on a Crowded Genre
Developed by industry veterans behind Far Cry 3, Rainbow Six Siege, and Fortnite, Revenge aims to set itself apart from other shooters through one of its defining feature, spectator interactivity, where viewers influence battles in real time by altering environments, deploying upgrades, and triggering events.
The game introduces three distinct roles to cater to various playstyles: Raiders (frontline fighters), Guides (tactical supporters), and Oracles (spectators with the power to shape gameplay). This layered structure blurs the lines between active play and passive viewing, offering a fresh approach to multiplayer gaming.
Balancing Innovation With Accessibility
The most notable feature of this partnership is the on-chain integration of Revenge with Immutable zkEVM, a blockchain platform focused on secure asset ownership, low cost and scalability on the Ethereum blockchain. The web3 integration will allow players to create weapons with custom, cosmetic modifications represented as NFTs that can be owned and traded by players. However, Everreach Labs has taken a player-first approach by making blockchain participation entirely optional, using Immutable, and ensuring it provides no PVP advantages.
This decision directly addresses the concerns of gamers who prefer traditional systems or are cautious about blockchain’s role in gaming. By designing a system where core mechanics do not rely on blockchain and maintaining a level playing field for all players, Revenge has even earned a spot on Steam—a platform known for its restrictive stance on games that feature NFTs or cryptocurrency.
While the optional nature of blockchain broadens the appeal of Revenge, it also poses challenges. Successfully blending innovative gameplay, interactive spectator features, and optional blockchain elements without alienating traditional audiences will require careful execution. Whether Revenge can achieve this balance remains to be seen, but its approach signals a thoughtful effort to welcome diverse gaming preferences.
What’s Next for Revenge
Currently in pre-alpha, Revenge is scheduled for a Q1 2025 debut. Development is being accelerated with the help of Magic Media, and the game is already available for wishlisting on Epic Games.
Everreach Labs CEO Nicolas Bougartchev sees the partnership with Immutable as a way to “strengthen player-spectator interaction, provide secure asset ownership, and deliver a seamless experience for our players.” Whether these ambitious goals resonate with the broader gaming audience will depend on how well the team delivers on its promises.
