Ember Sword is an upcoming MMORPG for PC (Windows & Mac) and browser, developed by Bright Star Studios. The game is set in a science fantasy world and features PvP and PVE modes, a classless combat system, various skills and activities, play to earn mechanisms, and players can have their own, customizable land. Ember Sword integrates blockchain technology (Ethereum) to record and secure ownership of digital assets earned or purchased by players, namely NFT assets (e.g. land, cosmetic weapons and armor, emotes, decorations) and cryptocurrency. Ember Sword has its own currency ($EMBER), which serves as a medium of exchange for Land and cosmetic-only collectibles traded between players.

Game Features

  • Player-Driven economy: Players can specialize in various skilled tasks (e.g. mining, logging, fishing, harvesting) and trade their output freely. Hence the demand, supply and prices of goods and services are ultimately governed by player choices.
  • Classless Combat System: Players can choose the play style they want or need at any time with abilities being bound to weapons instead of character class.
  • Personal, Customizable Land: Players can own Land (regular plot, settlement, town or city) which grants them various privileges, including the ability to build various buildings/amenities and issue player quests as Lords. (+ info)
  • Multi-Level Terrain: Unlike most isometric RPGs, players in Ember Sword can jump and access different terrain heights.
  • Play-to-Earn: Rewards may be earned in the form of cryptocurrency and NFTs. $EMBER may be earned by selling NFT collectibles which are earned in-game as reward.
  • Free-to-Play: Players will be able to enjoy the game’s main content and quests, and may earn collectible NFTs and $EMBER, without spending money.

Blockchain Integration

Ember Sword features a partially decentralized, player-owned economy, as players can effectively own and trade most in-game digital assets (e.g. land, collectible equipment, currency) outside of the game. Smart contracts built on the Ethereum blockchain are used to record and secure transactions and true ownership of all such digital assets. Ember Sword has its own cryptocurrency, $EMBER, which serves as a medium of exchange for Land and collectibles traded within the ecosystem.
Ember Sword isn’t open source. While ownership of digital assets is decentralized and secured on the blockchain, users may not be able to run the game on their own in the event that its online service is shut down prematurely.

Ownable (NFTs)

  • Land: Four types of NFT-backed virtual land (regular plot, settlement, town or city) that can be purchased to build various buildings and amenities.
  • Cosmetics: Collectible NFT equipment (e.g. weapons, armor) that can be purchased or earned in-game to customize a player’s appearance, and merged to increase uniqueness and scarcity.
  • Pets & Mounts: Collectible NFT pets and mounts that can be purchased or earned in-game to customize a player’s appearance and experience.
  • Emotes: Collectible NFT emote animations that can be purchased or earned in-game to customize and enrich social interaction.

Cryptocurrency

$EMBER is Ember Sword’s cryptocurrency. Its main purpose in the game is to allow users to purchase and sell land plots and various on-chain collectibles from and to one another.
