Wildcard is a player-versus-player (PvP) strategic action game for PC (Windows) by Playful Studios, blending collectible card and MOBA mechanics with real-time action combat. The game revolves around building decks of cards that summon creatures which fight alongside the player’s character i. The core gameplay takes place in dynamic arenas where players must strategically use both their Champions’ abilities and their Summons to outmanoeuvre opponents, all while being surrounded by live and interactive spectators. Additionally, Wildcard integrates blockchain technology (Ethereum/Polygon) to record and secure ownership of optional, collectible game-related NFTs, and to support DAO protocols in the broader Wildcard ecosystem.

Game Features

  • Card Summons: Players summon card-based creatures with unique abilities from their decks to fight alongside their Hero, emphasizing teamwork and strategy.
  • Companions: Each hero has a unique companion (sidekick) that can be used in the arena, adding a layer of strategy and the potential for powerful combos.
  • MOBA Mechanics: Players aim to outplay opponents, bypass the goalie, and destroy their goal (similar to a nexus), with support from summoned minions.
  • Action Combat: Heroes are controlled in real-time using a third-person view, blending fast-paced action with strategic decision-making.
  • Esports Appeal: The game features visually impressive sequences during battles, with dynamic interactions between heroes, companions, and summons, enhancing the overall entertainment value of the arena.

Blockchain Integration

Wildcard integrates blockchain technology outside of the core game to allow web3-friendly players to effectively own and trade game-related digital assets (e.g. collectibles) outside of the game, using smart contracts built on the Ethereum and Polygon blockchains to record and secure transactions and ownership thereof.
Wildcard is not open source. While ownership of digital assets may be decentralized and secured on the blockchain, users may not be able to run the game in the event that its online service is prematurely shut down.

Ownable (NFTs)

  • Wildcard Flair: A collection of NFT collectibles representing special events in the Wildcard universe, serving as souvenirs to celebrate player achievements.
  • Wildfile: A soul-bound NFT that acts as a player ID, recording contributions within the Wildcard universe.
  • Wildpass: A limited edition Genesis NFT (4,444 units) minted on the Polygon blockchain and providing early build access, exclusive events with developers, and priority for future airdrops and collaborations.
