Mirandus is a fantasy MMORPG for PC (Windows) by Gala Games. The game is set in a massive world ruled by five player-monarchs, and it provides players with a high degree of freedom, as there are no maps or preset quests. Players may explore the wilderness, confront monsters, serve as knights in a monarch’s court, or set up shops in one of the citadels. Ownership of in-game assets plays a central role, and players can acquire land deeds to claim portions of the wilderness and build anything from small farms to large cities. Mirandus employs blockchain technology (Ethereum/GalaChain) to record and secure ownership of in-game assets such as NFTs (e.g. avatars, land, buildings, ships) and cryptocurrency ($MTRM).
Game Features
- Player Freedom: Mirandus is designed around the concept of absolute player freedom. There are no maps or quest givers, allowing players to chart their own path, whether adventuring into dangerous territories or settling in more civilized areas.
- Monarchs and Citadels: The world is governed by five player-monarchs who control great citadels. Players may align themselves with a monarch and serve as knights or build a life within the citadels’ walls, engaging in commerce or crafting.
- Exploration and Combat: The game offers opportunities to venture into the wild, where players face dangerous monsters and explore dungeons in search of valuable resources, including the magical substance Materium.
- Holdfasts and Cities: Through the ownership of land deeds, players can establish their own settlements, ranging from small farms to vast cities. These locations become centers for commerce, crafting, and defense against threats from the wild.
Blockchain Integration
Mirandus features a partially player-owned economy where players can effectively own and trade many in-game digital assets (e.g. avatars, land, buildings, ships, cryptocurrency) outside of the game, using smart contracts built on the Ethereum and GalaChain blockchains to record and secure transactions and ownership thereof. The game also has its own cryptocurrency, $MTRM, which serves as the primary in-game currency and reward token.
Mirandus is not open source. While ownership of digital assets is decentralized and secured on the blockchain, users may not be able to run the game in the event that its online service is prematurely shut down.
Ownable (NFTs)
- Exemplars: Elite avatars that grant players special abilities. Exemplars are unique and limited to 50,000 in total, making them highly sought after for the benefits they provide in gameplay.
- Land Deeds: NFTs that grant ownership of land in Mirandus. Players can use these deeds to claim portions of the wilderness and build settlements, from small holdfasts to grand cities.
- Buildings: These NFTs represent various structures that players can build on their land, such as shops, crafting stations, and homes. The size and type of building influence the services and goods that can be produced.
- Ships: NFTs that allow players to explore Mirandus’ seas, facilitating trade and discovery. Larger ships can carry more cargo and crew, enhancing a player’s ability to navigate the game’s expansive world.
- Docks: Functional NFTs that provide docking spaces for ships. Different docks can accommodate various sizes of ships, with larger docks offering more utility and room for buildings.
Cryptocurrency
$MTRM (Materium) is the cryptocurrency that fuels the Mirandus ecosystem. Inside the game, Materium is synonymous with magic, used to cast spells, craft items, and heal wounds. It plays a critical role in both gameplay and the economy, as players must gather, trade, or acquire Materium to progress in the game.
