Illuvium: Overworld is an upcoming free-to-play*, third-person action-adventure RPG with auto battles for PC (Windows & Mac) by Illuvium Labs. The game is set within a diverse and dynamic alien open world. Players collect precious resources and craft useful gear to explore and attempt to capture alien creatures (Illuvials) that will fight on their side in the associated auto-battler game and modes. The game features fast-paced exploration action, strategic grid-based auto-battles, and in-game rewards in the form of NFTs. Illuvium Overworld is part of the Web3-powered Illuvium gaming ecosystem, comprising a series of separate but interconnected games (e.g. Beyond, Zero and Arena), which integrates blockchain technology (Ethereum and Immutable X) to record and secure ownership of digital assets earned or purchased by players, namely NFT assets (e.g. characters, cosmetics) and cryptocurrency. Illuvium: Overworld is linked to Illuvium’s cryptocurrency ($ILV), NFT marketplace (Illuvidex), and decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).
Game Features
- Fast-Paced Action: Several movement and travel abilities such as sprint, multi-jump, slow time, jet pack, flying bubbles, wingsuit and teleport allow a faster pace of exploration and a more immersive experience.
- Grid-Based Combat: Players can fight the creatures (Illuvials) they encounter, and attempt to capture them in a dedicated PVE instance of auto-battler Illuvium Arena.
- Extensive Crafting & Customization : Players collect a wide range of resources to craft and upgrade various equipment and gear (weapons, armor, accessories), including skins, for their main character and drone, and to fuse and upgrade their collectible combat creatures (Illuvials).
- Play-to-Earn: Rewards may be earned in the form of NFTs encompassing characters, resources, items and cosmetics, some of which may be earned as direct in-game rewards while others have to be crafted using resources collected in-game.
- Free-to-Play: Players will be able to enjoy some of game’s main content for free and may earn some collectible (and tradable) NFTs without spending money. Access to most of the game’s exploration content requires Fuel, a limited quantity of which is provided for free.
Blockchain Integration
WhitepaperIlluvium features a partially player-owned economy, as players can effectively own and trade most in-game digital assets (e.g. characters, resources, skins, currency) outside of the game. Smart contracts built on the Ethereum blockchain (using Immutable X) are used to record and secure transactions and true ownership of all such digital assets. Illuvium has its own cryptocurrency, $ILV, which mostly serves as a decentralized governance and DeFi token.
Illuvium doesn’t appear to be open source. While ownership of digital assets is decentralized and secured on the blockchain, users may not be able to run the game on their own in the event that its (centralized) online service is shut down.
Ownable (NFTs)
- Characters: Collectible NFT characters named Illuvials, that players can collect and upgrade in-game, and that can be used interoperably in Illuvium: Overworld (PVE) and Illuvium: Arena (PVP).
- Creatures: Collectible NFT creatures named Morphopods, that players can collect in-game and use in Illuvium: Zero.
- Equipment & Gear: NFT equipment (main character & drone accessories) and gear (weapons, armor, augments) that players can craft and upgrade in-game.
- Resources: NFT resources (mined, harvested or crafted in-game) that players use to craft and upgrade equipment & gear.
- Cosmetics: Collectible NFT skins for the main character (Ranger) and its companion drone (Moz4rt).
Cryptocurrency
$ILV is Illuvium’s cryptocurrency. It serves as a governance token granting decision-making power, as a DeFi investment token granting a share of revenues, and also serves indirectly as a currency in-game.
