Genopets is a free-to-play, “move-to-play” virtual pet care game for mobile (Android, iOS), integrating physical activity with digital gameplay. Reminiscent of earlier pet games like Tamagotchi and Pokémon, its core feature revolves around players nurturing and evolving their digital pets, called Genopets, as they engage in daily physical activity, habitat management, crafting, battling, economic interaction and various minigames. Additionally, Genopets integrates blockchain technology (Solana) to record and secure ownership of game-related NFTs and cryptocurrencies, and to support DAO protocols in the broader Genopets ecosystem.
Game Features
- Nurture & Evolution: Players care for their Genopet, using steps to earn experience points (XP) and level up. Minigames focused on feeding and playing improve the Genopet’s mood, boosting energy conversion efficiency.
- Habitat Management: Players can own or lease/rent Habitats, which unlock crafting and economic features. Habitats also allow for energy conversion into KI tokens.
- Crafting: With a Habitat, players can craft in-game items like augments and cosmetics. These items can be used to customize Genopets or traded in the marketplace.
- Battle System: Players use Energy to engage in turn-based battles, testing cognitive skills such as reaction time and memory. Battles provide casual competitive gameplay.
- Move-to-Play: Players convert their real-world steps into Energy, fueling gameplay progression by enhancing their Genopet’s abilities.
Blockchain Integration
WhitepaperGenopets features some form of decentralized governance using DAOs, and a partially player-owned economy where players can effectively own and trade various digital assets (e.g. pets, habitats, items, cryptocurrencies) outside of the game, using smart contracts built on the Solana blockchain to record and secure transactions and ownership thereof. The game features a dual cryptocurrency system: $GENE, a staking-governance token, and $KI, an in-game crafting and reward token. 
Genopets is not open source. While ownership of digital assets may be decentralized and secured on the blockchain, users may not be able to run the game in the event that its online service is prematurely shut down.
Ownable (NFTs)
- Genopets (NFTs): A digital pet NFT that evolves and upgrades through player activity. Players mint a free baby Genopet and level it up by staying active, enhancing its battle abilities and appearance. Special Genesis Genopets come pre-evolved with rare traits.
- Habitats (NFTs): Habitats unlock advanced gameplay, allowing players to earn KI tokens and craft items. Habitat owners can create and sell new Habitats. Genesis Habitats offer exclusive crafting options and higher rewards.
- Refined Crystals (SFTs): Semi-fungible tokens crafted by Habitat owners, used for in-game boosts or combined into other items. Available in five elemental types, these Crystals accelerate evolution and customization.
- Terraform Seeds (SFTs): Used to create new Habitats, Terraform Seeds are semi-fungible tokens that can be bred by Habitat owners. They are essential for expanding the game’s ecosystem and can be traded or sold.
Cryptocurrency
- $GENE is a governance and staking token, and is required for in-game crafting. Staking allows users to earn rewards, access exclusive content, and contribute to decision-making.
